The MIX family has been growing and changing since Gay and Dayton married in Corry, PA,
May 18, 1991. Dayton’s originally from Shinglehouse, PA, in Potter County, and Gay is from Eldred, PA, in McKean County.
Dayton worked a variety of jobs (housekeeping, orderly, houseparent, reporter, disc jockey at a Christian radio station) before graduating from Edinboro University of PA in 1992. Gay graduated from Indiana University of PA in 1985 and was employed as a music teacher in the Corry School District.
In 1994, Gay and Dayton became foster parents and the next year adopted two sisters, Michele and Sarah. In 2003, Joshua was born.
Since 1996, Dayton has served churches in Spartansburg, Union City, Patton, DuBois, Reynoldsville, and Clarks Mills. He has served on district and conference committees, as well as ministerium groups, Salvation Army units, and scout groups. His hobbies are reading, photography, camping, history, genealogy, writing and blogging.
In January of this year, Gay and Dayton adopted Elizabeth. During the home study, the case worker noticed that Josh had an extra bunk and introduced us to David Graham, who became a permanent part of our family through the guardianship program.
Upon retiring from teaching, Gay served as a chaplain in the State Park system through the PA Council of Churches at Prince Gallitzen and Parker Dam State Parks. She then returned to IUP, attaining a Master’s Degree in Community Counseling. She has worked as a Partial Hospitalization therapist and supervisor, Outpatient Therapist, Family Based therapist, and Substance Abuse counselor in a correctional facility. As a Certified Lay Speaker, she was appointed by the DS as a lay pastor to Hickory and Sabula UMC, near DuBois. She sings, plays trumpet and piano, and enjoys leading contemporary and blended worship. She is currently enjoying time spent at home with Elizabeth.
Joshua, (12) is in sixth grade, and loves science, math, reading, and Legos. He is in Boy Scouts, Little League, Robotics Club, and enjoys helping younger kids.
David, (18) is a senior and looks forward to graduation. He hopes to eventually have a career in underwater welding. He enjoys playing his saxophone and everything about the outdoors, especially with his dog ‘Shay.’
Elizabeth (3) enjoys dolls, changing clothes, watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Callou, and anything that keeps her from having to take naps or go to bed at night. Her favorite quotes are: “NO!”, “I’m hungwee!” and “I love you!”
